FTP configuration on HP-UX

 

 

1.      Edit inetd.conf

Enable etc/ftpd/ftpaccess

Enabling or Disabling the /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess File

The following specifies how to enable or disable the /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess file:

• To enable the /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess file, specify the -a option for the ftp entry in the /etc/inetd.conf file. For example:

ftp stream tcp nowait root /usr/lbin/ftpd ftpd -a -l -d

• To disable the /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess file, specify the -A option for the ftp entry in the /etc/inetd.conf file. For example:

ftp stream tcp nowait root /usr/lbin/ftpd ftpd -A -l -d

Otherwise, you can disable the /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess file by not specifying any option for the ftp entry in the /etc/inetd.conf file.

 

#etc/inetd –c

:Make inetd reload inetd.conf

 

2.      copy files from /usr/newconfig/etc/ftpd/examples to  etc/ftpd

• /etc/ftpd/ftpconversions

• /etc/ftpd/ftphosts

• /etc/ftpd/ftpusers

• /etc/ftpd/ftpgroups

• /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess

 

3.      create group

#groupadd ftpuser

 

4.      create user

#useradd testuser

#passwd testuser

5.      Edit etc/group

Add the new user to group

ftpuser::106:bluedusk

6.      Edit etc/ftpd/ftpaccess, add 5 rows:

chmod           yes             guest

delete          yes             guest

overwrite       yes             guest

rename          yes             guest

guestgroup      ftpuser

: this is to force the user to its own folder when access.

7.      Edit etc/passwd, give testuser a invalid shell

bluedusk:lBcUdgucgPH6.:108:20::/home/bluedusk:/bin/false

 

 

 

 

 

8.      copy ls to home/testuser

cp /sbin/ls /home/testuser/usr/bin

9.      commands

pwck :ckeck password
