Yesterday afternoon President Mubarak resigned, celebrations continue, but call prevails, and reaction from around the world including other protests. I’m Marti Johnson, reporting from Washington.
Egyptians continue celebrating their resignation of President Hosni Mubarak, broke down an 18 days anti-government protest. It has an announcement that State Television on Saturday afternoon the Egyptian military said current cabinet ministers were remaining in place, nobody can be chosen and they vowed to abide by any International records including peace treaties. Crowds in Cairo’s Tahrir Square were the protestors originated, had thinned today, after days have been packed with anti-government protestors. Soldiers begin removing barriers, barbed wire and debris on the square. And around other government buildings, and in some cases were helped by protestors turned volunteers. VOA’s Luis Ramirez is on the scene and filing this report.

There were few people on Tahrir Square, but some remained celebrating after 18 days of protest brought down the man who ruled the country for nearly 30 years. In an effort to calm the demonstrator there Bahrain’s King announce Friday that every family in the oil-rich Kingdom will receive $1000 as a sign of appreciation people of Bahrain.
President Barack Obama has expressed his support for the Egyptian’s people saying their creativity brought them to this moment. “Mubarak resign new generation emerge that the generations use their own creativity, talent and technology to call for the government to represent the hopes, not the feels, and government was responsive to the boundless and aspirations”. Meantime, the top U.S. military officer has visited Jordan Sunday and Monday, they were to issue the country U.S. support following the resignation of Egyptian president.
The Vatican says chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Michael Mullen will meet in Amman, Jordan with King Abdullah and other Jordanian officials on Sunday. He will later travel to Tel Aviv for talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres as well as the country’s military officials.
Egypt was strongest European airline. Iraqi officials say suicide bomber has killed at least 27 Shiite pilgrims near the city of Samarra. Saturday’s bombing came two days after a car bomb killed at least 8 Shiite pilgrims traveling to the Samarra for a religious event commemorating death of 9th century imam.
The World Health Organization is calling for action to reduce the harmful alcohol which says kills 2.5 million people globally every year. A new WHO reports notes 4 percent of our global death is related to alcohol abuse. Lisa Schlein reports for VOA from headquarters in Geneva. “The World Health Organization says the harm for abuse of alcohol now is the third leading risk factor leading to illness and death from non-communicable and communicable disease. It says most alcohol related death caused by injure from drunk-driving, cancer, liver cirrhosis and disease stroke. It says alcohol abuse also contribute to 200 other diseases. World wide the reports find more than 6% all males’ death are related to alcohol compared to just 1% of female”. Lisa Schlein reports for VOA News, Geneva.
