Vista still is not "compatable" with VS.NET 2005 (as they say in our .NET User Group), so what I had to do to get it working on Vista is Right-Click on the VS icon in the start menu, click Properties.  Go to the Compatibility tab and at the bottom, under "Privilege Level" ensure that the checkbox for "Run this program as an administrator" is checked.  You may have to do this to the SP1 upgrade application.  It is all running fine on my Visa laptop now. Hope this helps!
