A group of New York Residents is suing Baidu, for alleged violation of the
US c
onstitution
.
In
the suit filed in the
US district court in Manhattan,
eight plaintiffs accused Baidu of having violated their right of free speech by
excluding their writings and video about human rights and democracy in China
from their search results
. The filing also lists the Chine state as a co-defendant.
But
Beijing government dismissed this lawsuit later, arguing that its management of
the internet is in line with the international practice and a sovereign act. “According
to the international law, foreign courts have no jurisdiction”.
In
the year of 2003, China state built GFW(
Great Firewall). The
GFW will prevent Chinese netizens from searching for the pages of discussing
the human rights, democracy, and the news that will threaten the CCP’s
dominating government
. And the GFW also forbidden Chinese netizens to access
youtube, twitter, and facebook.
In
the past, China state’s internet censorship policies have mainly hurt foreign
companies. Google has to move its main land web search services from Beijing to
Hong Kong so that It no longer censors its search results according to China
state’s behest. But its share of the Chinese online search market has dropped
to less than 20 percent.
Yet
today, the result of the Google search engine is also controlled by China state’s
GFW. If the keywords which you’re using to search on the Google is one of China
state’s sensitive words, you probably will not get the result. Because you
connection to the Google search engine will be cut off by GFW.
Now,
China state’s internet censorship is becoming
severer and
severer.
But our Chinese netizen will
not stop to fight for the internet freedom.
I
believe, one day Chinese citizen not only can break the GFW, freely
access youtube, twitter, and facebook, but also gain the real human rights as
many many western people do.
